Kiln carved fused glass

This piece is again bullseye and is kiln cast. That entails creating a pattern from fibre blanket, covering it with different coloured powders glass. Layers of clear glass are then placed on top and dammed in place. Glass naturally wants to be 6mm thick and if you require a thicker piece – this is about 12-15mm – you need to prevent the molten glass from flowing.

Once cool, it is operation cold work to clean them up, sandblast them and cut to the desired shape, the design you want maintains lovely crisp edges. These are then polished before mounting.
